FAQs

World Road Statistics (WRS) - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • How can I access the WRS data?
Create a Data Warehouse account here and log in after clicking the verification link sent to your email.

  • What should I do if I haven’t received my Data Warehouse verification email?
Please check your spam folder first. If the email is not there, email stats@irfofficial.org and ask for your account to be manually verified.

  • What data is available for free?
Thanks to the generous support of TotalEnergies Foundation and Michelin Corporate Foundation, anyone can freely access our extensive global WRS 2026 data covering the most recent six years (2019-2024) through the IRF WRS Data Warehouse.

  • How much is access to the WRS Millennium data (currently including data for 2000-2024)?
This depends on the intended usage and number of intended users. Please contact our team at stats@irfofficial.org.

  • How many users does a licence cover, and can I add more later?
A single-user licence typically covers one user. Multi-user licences are flexible and agreed with you based on your needs, and further licences can be added at any time.

  • Are individual or student discounts available?
We do not offer discounts for individual researchers or students. However, we do offer preferential rates for multi-user and departmental licences.
For students and researchers: We suggest checking with your university department or library to see if they would like to purchase a multi-user licence on behalf of your institution.

  • How do I pay, and when is access granted?
Payment is normally made by bank transfer, however, we can accept credit card payment if required (with a small surcharge). Access is granted once payment has been received.

  • For how long is a purchased WRS licence valid?
    • WRS Six-Year Data (Excel): Valid indefinitely. The delivered Excel file has no expiration date and remains fully accessible (offline) for unlimited time.
    • WRS Millennium (data 2000 onwards) Access: Interactive Data Warehouse access is valid until the release of the next annual edition, typically early September, regardless of your purchase date. Upon release of the new edition, your account automatically reverts to standard six-year access. However, any Excel files downloaded during your Millennium access remain yours to keep indefinitely.

Need a multi-year licence? Contact stats@irfofficial.org for a customised quote.

  •  How do I become an IRF Member?
Information about IRF membership, the global community shaping the future of road transport, is available at https://irfofficial.org/membership/ or get in touch at membership@irfofficial.org.

  • In what format is the data provided?
Charts can be viewed directly in the Data Warehouse and downloaded as images (.png, .jpeg or .svg formats), PDF, or as Excel or CSV files. A WRS Millennium purchase also includes Data Warehouse access together with the full Excel file, containing all the raw data as well as helpful pivot tables.

  • Which countries and years are covered in the WRS?
Data availability varies from country to country and across years, depending on the availability of official statistics and sources. We are happy to send you a data availability overview for the themes you need – feel free to email us at stats@irfofficial.org.

  • Is data before 2000 available?
Data prior to 2000 is currently not made available.

  • Can I buy a partial data extract?
